Founded in 1948 by Elmina Fortin and Stanislas Labbé, Laiterie Charlevoix is still owned by the Labbé family today. Stanislas and Elmina's great-grandchildren are the fourth generation to work in the company. Originally dedicated to the dairy products trade in Charlevoix and on the North Shore, the company has adapted over the years to turn to the production of fine cheeses and cheddar. Laiterie Charlevoix is one of the few dairy companies in Quebec to have preserved the artisanal character of its cheddar cheese production methods, while rigorously respecting current processing standards. Laiterie Charlevoix's products are distributed throughout Canada. Today, the company has made a major environmental shift by converting its whey into energy. It has chosen to establish partnerships with young agricultural producers in order to safeguard dairy farms in Charlevoix.
Visit the artisanal cheese factory, a privileged opportunity to discover the profession of cheese making and to speak to a person who lives and works in the region. Discover the company's heritage, lifestyle, history and culture. You will be able to enhance your on- site experience by following the exhibition La Goutte de Lait (The Drop of Milk).
The Laiterie de Charlevoix lives from a local agriculture, produced on a human scale, which allows the company to control the quality parameters of its cheeses. Whether it is by their taste, their aromas or their texture, fine cheeses appeal to all consumers. The most timid cheese lover will find an everyday cheese while the most critical will find a perfect aroma or an ideal texture for a dish. Cheeses for all occasions at home! It's also a must-stop for picking up several local products to enjoy on-site or to take away!
