Celtic Roots Studio was established in 1990 by Helen Conneely and has been based in Ballinahown, Westmeath since 1998. Over time, the studio has become an integral part of the community and an expression of Conneely's commitment to supporting sustainable development through partnership and dialogue, and to engage with others in a way that only the Ballinahown community does. The studio consists of a workshop and gallery with an interpretive centre and an exhibition of historical objects made from peat bogs. This natural material was formed from trees that burrowed into Irish bogs thousands of years ago and that has been preserved in the low oxygen atmosphere of the peat.
