Founded in 1998 by Jérémie and Lucie Arseneau, the Pied-De-Vent Cheese Factory has been managed by Dominique Arseneau, and Renée Landry since 2018. Despite these changes in management, the original objective has remained unchanged: to focus on the quality and uniqueness of the product on offer.
The company's cheeses are made from its herd of Canadienne cows, with theirs being the only dairy cow farm in the Magdalen Islands. The choice of this breed was made because of its cheese yield and hardiness. The herd is fed on the diversity of the Islands' forage land, without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This type of feeding gives a unique milk which confers to the Pied-De-Vent cheeses a distinct flavour that reflects the wind, the sea spray and the Magdalen soil, and on which the reputation of their cheese is built.
In the enchanting landscape of the Magdalen Islands, you will live a truly unique experience. A visit to the dairy farm will allow you to discover the Canadian cows whose mere being on the Islands is a real feat! Tasting, demonstration and interpretation activities explaining various facts related to the making and history of cheese complete this unforgettable interaction with these cheese makers.
Artisanal cheeses made from the milk of Canadienne cows, soft cheeses, semi-soft cheeses and cheddar curds make up the range of cheeses produced by Pied-De-Vent. The names of these cheeses are directly inspired by the Magdalen Islands' heritage, such as Tomme des Demoiselles, Art-Senau, or Jeune-Cœur. In the shop, dishes made from their cheeses await you.
