The Ciderhuset or Cider House is located in Balestrand in Sogn, a few steps from the harbour and the Kviknes Hotel. Fruit growing and cider making are closely linked here in western Norway, all the way back to when Grandfather Andreas Eitungjerde planted the orchard in 1922. When his grandson Åge took over the property in the mid-1990s, he looked at new ways to utilize the fruit. He left his teaching position as a lecturer to found Balholm and the Cider House. Balholm is the company’s brand of fruit and berry-based drinks, and its production is a passion project for these artisans! The Cider House was completed in 2005 but continues to grow and change. This familly of artisans is multi-talented, with Eli-Grete founding the consulting company Interplan in the offices of the Cider House. When the family's eldest son Gard and his Turkish wife Tuba decided to move to Balestrand, the Cider House underwent another renewal, offering today’s visitors an unforgettable experience.
Take a tour with one of the family members. Learn how fruit is grown in the company's organic garden and how it is transformed into cider, berry wines and brandies. You will discover the cider making process, from start to sparkling perfection! Your visit will end with a tasting of ciders, wines and brandies.
After your tasting, why not drop by the shop and take home a delicious beverage?
