Along Highway 16 in Dafoe, Saskatchewan, Freba Pottery is a one-of-a-kind Potter ÉCONOMUSÉE®. First sparked by her grandmother's passion for pottery, Marea Olafson left a 25-year teaching career to devote herself fully to her craft. She throws functional pieces for everyday moments, in the century-old family home she reclaimed to keep its history alive.
Things to Do at Freba Pottery
Self-Serve Pottery Shop, Open 24/7 — Stop by any time at the roadside shop along Highway 16: choose a piece of wheel-thrown pottery and leave your payment with the honour system (cash, cheque, e-transfer or credit card).
The School House Studio — Step inside the potter's studio, inspired by the one-room prairie schools of Saskatchewan. If the Open sign is up, Marea is at her wheel.
Pottery Workshop ($) — Get hands-on with shaping techniques, from coil building to the pottery wheel, in a workshop guided by Marea.
Elemental Claycation, Immersive Pottery Retreat ($) — Two days to learn to work with clay, create your own pieces, savour a farm-to-table menu of Saskatchewan flavours and stay in a heritage home that welcomes up to six guests. Slow down, create, and reconnect.
