At 15, Diane. Walters took her first pottery class. This was the beginning of what would become a lifelong passion for ceramics and its raw material, clay.
The special bond between D.E. Walters and clay goes far beyond the technical aspect of the ceramic profession. For her, the making of her pieces is the result of a series of changes and metamorphoses like those undergone by the Earth throughout its history. She sees her kiln as a replica of a volcano’s entrails!
This unbreakable link between her art, the Earth and its evolution constitutes her distinctive mark. Her creative gesture tells of this connection, whether it is when she shapes the clay on her wheel or when she multiplies the tests to find the perfect glaze for her pieces. D.E. Walters is very sensitive to the environment around her and makes it a point to recycle the leftover clay she uses, starting a new life cycle, just like in nature.
Without a doubt, Diane Walters brings her work as a ceramist to life with an uncommon approach.
Living in the beautiful city of Nelson since 1991, Diane Walters invites you to visit her ceramic studio, she calls eARTh Studios. On site, you will discover a landscaped outdoor tour as well as a gallery and studio where Diane Walters welcomes you. She is keen to share her passion and her ceramic craft. She also offers various workshops and artistic stays in her B&B, the Gallery Suite.
D.E. Walters pottery pieces are designed for everyday use, not just for special occasions. They range from mugs to plates to bowls and are easy to care for. Her collection also includes more artistic and decorative pieces.
