The Jules Saint-Michel violin shop has been in business since 1970. It has seen three generations of the Saint-Michel family practicing their craft of violin making. As a violin, viola, cello and double bass maker, the company repairs and restores instruments. Today, it is Jules Saint-Michel, the dean of Quebec luthiers of Hungarian origin (born Gyula Szentmihaly in Budapest) who manages the workshop. For over 45 years, he has devoted himself to the construction and restoration of violins as well as to the study and expertise of ancient and modern instruments. The company's mission is to showcase the great violin makers of the past, and the origin and the history of stringed instrument making.
Today, Jules' daughter, Lili, is in charge of the guided tours of the violin making ÉCONOMUSÉE®. You will meet a musical instrument enthusiast who will tell you about the history and heritage of the company.
During your visit, you will have the opportunity to discover the creations of Jules Saint Michel. If you fall in love, you can leave with a quality musical instrument.
